MA in Reading Education

The NJTOP Online or Hybrid MA in Reading Education at Rowan University is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation in Teacher Education in conjunction with the International Reading Association. It is designed for those who have an initial teaching license and want to expand their knowledge, skills, and dispositions in teaching literacy and coaching paraprofessionals and colleagues. The course of study provides students with an understanding of the basic principles of developmental and remedial reading instruction for grades P-12. Students acquire advanced knowledge of the reading process and engage in hands on experiences diagnosing and teaching learners who have difficulty with literacy acquisition.

There are two tracks: Track I does not include the Reading Specialist Certification becuase it allows students not to take the clinical lab course on Glassboro campus; Track II is for students willing to make the 16 trips to Glassboro for the clinical lab course and does include the Reading Specialist Certification.  We are creating a second lab location in the Elizabeth City area.  This will allow students in Central New Jersey to enroll in Track II.
